| Tamaka Fisher created Steveston Village Gallery
in May of 2004 as a means of showcasing original local fine art and taking the mystery out of collecting art and commissioning paintings. She has relationships with local painters, potters, sculptors, jewellers and glassblowers and is able to match clients with artists. Most people want to see the art in the place where it will be shown, so why make the client come to the gallery and imagine what it will look like in their space? She brings art directly to clients in their home, movie set, or workplace, Whether it is an art rental or purchase, Tamaka can find the right pieces. Tamaka has studied at Emily Carr College of Art and Design and is visual artist. She has been painting since the early 1980's and has exhibited at the Richmond Art Gallery, Open Art, Gulf of Georgia Gallery and other exhibitions including her own gallery. Tamaka volunteers on the board of Richmond Arts Coalition (RAC), and Richmond Public Arts Commission. In 2007 she was the recipient of the Ethel Tibbits ,Woman of the Year award in the category of the Arts. Her most recent exploration in the arts was writing a short play, Okazu, for the Gateway Theatre's 'Sea of Stories' production. The play is one of six stories of immigration, culture and change and was performed on May 6, 2007 at the Gateway. The play will be archived at the Richmond Library and distributed to all Richmond high schools for use in their drama departments. Garden design is also a passion for Tamaka. She sees garden design as a natural extension of her visual arts and uses a palette of trees, plants, wood, stone and water to create personal spaces that speak to the uniqueness of the individuals they are created for. Her designs are sensitive to the needs of her clients and considerations of each site. Her designs are executed by her husband, Roy, and his company Wild West Gardens Ltd.
